Manufactured by cybersecurity provider Lavasoft (formerly often known as Ad-Aware) Adaware is a security program that aims to combat the kinds of rogue apps and privacy threats that a majority of users aren’t even aware of. This includes programs that reroute your browsing habits, courses that hijack your browser start web page and applications that display irritating advertising at the most uncomfortable times. This free application also comes with a host of extra features to increase security and ensure that your device is running smoothly.
In our tests, adaware was able to recognize the majority of the malware we threw at it. It had difficulty removing some, however. The program comes with several useful extras such as a privacy watcher, an adaware registry scanner, file shredder and advanced network monitoring. It’s worth noting, though, that adaware doesn’t offer the same level of protection as the top antivirus tools in the industry.
The last time adaware took part in AV-Test lab tests, it was able to block only ninety five. The threat rate was 4% for 0-day threats and 97% of known risks. These aren’t bad scores, but they’re not close to the best security suites.
Adware users who want to perform better, should look at the alternatives. We recommend Kaspersky and Bitdefender that are known for their reliability in real-world tests. Some users may be disappointed to find that only users of the Pro and Total plans have access to online customer and technical support. The company does offer various information and frequently asked questions on its website, though.
