Best Antivirus Rescue Disks

Many of the best antivirus providers provide a free bootable rescue disk for disinfecting your computer after an infection. They are essentially Linux-based programs designed to clean an infected PC that won’t start up or isn’t checked by a regular antivirus program running in Windows. For convenience I suggest the Kaspersky disk (though it won’t work on some Dell systems).

Alternatively, you can get the same features from data room services the Avira and ESET rescue disks that come with a graphical user interface however, they require either a CD or USB device to start. Both options can scan and decipher any malware on your computer. However their virus definitions may not be regularly updated like the Linux-based Rescue Disks.

The Trend Micro rescue disk is a good alternative and one of the smallest on this list with around 70MB. It does not have an interface with graphical graphics, however it’s fast and comes with several options for customization. These include the ability to mount specific files and drive volumes, and even individual folders.

The Comodo Rescue Disk is a great choice for a virus check, however it doesn’t have the same flexibility as the alternatives that run on Linux. It’s a highly effective tool for detecting and eliminating virus that may be hidden in Windows files, preventing detection by the standard antivirus software. You can choose to use a text-only interface or a full-graphic interface. You can also conduct a smart scan or a custom scan.
